Guide for electrical contractors and customers issued

The guide for electrical contractors has been launched by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Electrical Safety Council.

The guide, which is available online, is a response to a 2006 finding by Consumer Direct that many of the complaints received about electrical work were down to problems in communication between the customer and the contractor.

Electrical contractors will be able to use a more detailed quotation when customers use the downloadable quotation request form which asks customers to specify the electrical work they want done as well as time or money constraints they have.

Armed with the facts about the customers wishes and tolerable levels of disruption, the contractors will be able to go about their work smoothly, steering clear of some of the common causes for dispute.

Nick Canty of the IET said: "As the publishers of the UK Wiring Regulations the IET plays a key role in the electrical installation industry.

"We share the Electrical Safety Councils commitment to safety and good practice and feel sure this guide will benefit both consumers and electricians by providing common ground on which to discuss electrical work."

Rapid Electronics are one of the UKs leading suppliers of electronic components, electrical products, and industrial supplies to the Electrical Contractor sector.
